The target community for the project is Iyegwu Village in Igalamela Local Government Area, Kogi State, Nigeria – a small rural village lacking essential social amenities such as access to clean drinking water, healthcare facilities, and schools.
The village has no reliable source of potable water, forcing residents to depend on streams and stagnant ponds. Women and girls in particular, must walk 3-5 km daily, morning and evening, to collect water, often carrying heavy loads on their heads.
This dire situation, coupled with the poor quality of water from streams and ponds, has led to frequent illnesses and even deaths within the community.
