Iyegwu Village in Igalamela Local Government Area is a small rural community in desperate need of essential social amenities. The absence of a reliable source of potable water forced residents to rely on streams and stagnant ponds for their daily water needs. Women and girls often walked 3-5 kilometres every day, carrying heavy loads of water on their heads. This burden not only affected their health and education but also led to frequent illnesses and even deaths due to the poor quality of water.

Waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea and typhoid, have been rampant in the community. The lack of clean water exacerbated the struggles of already vulnerable residents, making daily life a constant challenge.

Transforming Lives Through Clean Water
The installation of the borehole, powered by solar energy, has been a transformative project for Iyegwu Village. With four solar panels, a solar pumping machine, and two 4,000-litre water tanks, the project now provides clean, safe, and reliable water to the entire community. Women and girls no longer need to walk long distances to fetch water, giving them time to focus on education and other productive activities.
