Empowerment Through Small Tools: The Mixer Project

Empowerment Through Small Tools: The Mixer Project

The Empowerment Through Small Tools initiative is designed to give hardworking individuals the equipment they need to grow small businesses. In 2024, Oma HelpingHands Foundation gave Abuka Victoria Amichi, a skilled baker, a new electric mixer.

Victoria is well known in her community for great cakes and big dreams. But she lacked the tools to grow. Hand mixing was slow and tiring, so that she could take only a few orders. The new mixer transformed her capacity overnight—allowing her to mix faster, bake more efficiently, and grow her customer base.

This project demonstrates how even a simple intervention can create sustainable change. By offering one practical tool, we gave Victoria the chance to increase her income, support her family, and lay a more substantial base for her business. Our empowerment model makes sure each recipient gets not just equipment but also guidance on safe use, proper care, and how to grow their craft into a steady income.

For Oma HelpingHands Foundation, empowerment means unlocking potential. By equipping people like Victoria, we help turn skills into income, and income into opportunity. The impact goes beyond the individual—when small businesses thrive, families are lifted, and communities grow stronger.

With donor support, we aim to replicate this initiative across Nigeria by providing start-up tools to more artisans, bakers, tailors, and tradespeople.
