Grand Opening of Iyegwu Solar-Powered Borehole Project

Grand Opening of Iyegwu Solar-Powered Borehole Project

News Overview

Oma HelpingHands Foundation has officially commissioned a solar-powered borehole in the Iyegwu community of Kogi State, providing safe and reliable water access to hundreds of households.

For years, families—especially women and children—walked several kilometers daily to fetch water from ponds and streams, often exposing themselves to waterborne diseases. This new solar-powered system now brings clean water closer to homes, improving health, saving time, and restoring dignity to the community.

About the Project

The newly commissioned system features dual solar-powered storage tanks and multiple tap points designed for convenient, steady access to water.

By using renewable solar energy, the project guarantees sustainable operation, eliminating dependence on fuel or electricity and ensuring a consistent, eco-friendly water supply year-round.

This project directly reflects Oma HelpingHands Foundation’s mission to meet urgent community needs through practical, lasting, and transparent solutions that improve daily living conditions.

Commissioning Ceremony

The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, local residents, and friends of the Foundation who came together to celebrate the life-changing achievement.

The event was blessed by The Catholic Bishop of Idah Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Ademu Adaji, MSP, who commended the Foundation’s efforts and described the project as “a true gift of health, dignity, and hope.”

Community members expressed deep gratitude, sharing how the new system would reduce the daily hardship of fetching water and protect their children from illness.

Gratitude and Next Steps

Oma HelpingHands Foundation extended heartfelt thanks to its donors, friends, and prayer supporters whose generosity made the project possible.

Leaders reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to continue expanding clean water initiatives—replicating solar-powered systems in other rural communities across Nigeria where water scarcity remains severe.

“Clean water brings life. With faith and support, we will keep bringing that life to more communities,” said the Foundation’s President.
